Mrs. Robert T. Hansen (Mary Jeanne)
(December 6, 1922 - June 13, 2017)
Honorary President of General (2008-2017)
Organizing Member 2702
William Harvey Lackey - 4th VA Infantry Co. I

One of the bright stars of the United Daughters of the Confederacy has left us to join all those who have gone before. She will be missed, but take heart that she has gone on to her well earned and greater reward. With 79 years of service to Confederate organizations (11 with Children of the Confederacy and 68 UDC), no one will truly be able to take her place.

December 2017 update: Her UDC marker was placed on her stone before being set in the cemetery. The chapter plans to dedicate it in March, 2018.

Mary Jeanne always had an eye to the details, great and small. From her chapter to General and beyond: She worked with the designer to produce our chapter pin. When wearing our pin, we will have her with us always.

She also served the society as Oklahoma Division President 1976-1977, 2001-2002, and 2007-2008 as well as numerous positions. Mary Jeanne was active at the General level throughout her years of service, including serving as Vice President General and General Recorder of Crosses (now Military Service Awards).

On a more personal level, she graduated from William and Mary, as well as held a Masters degree from the University of Oklahoma. In 1946, she enlisted with the Special Services as a librarian and was attached to the U.S. Army, in Japan.  Upon her return she married Robert T. Hansen, an Army sergeant with the Second Infantry Division.
